We’re delighted to announce The Encounter, an upcoming exhibition featuring work from the Leeds Arts University MA Fine Art 2025 cohort:
Ian Hodgson @ianhodgson1960
Luke Irving @_mr_irvong_
Phee Jefferies @pheemakesthings
Irina Lomash @irinalomash
Clare O’Hara @clare0h
This exhibition brings together five artists working across painting, sculpture, moving image, sound, and found materials. While each practice is distinct, the works share an interest in how memory, belief, and everyday environments shape perception. Domestic space, landscape, personal archives, humour, ritual, and the uncanny are used as starting points to question what feels familiar and why.
The exhibition will take place on the ground floor of a Convention House at East Street Art. The intention is to work with its existing architecture and to create a structured but flexible environment where works can respond to one another while retaining their autonomy. We are particularly interested in the idea of thresholds - both physical and psychological. Each space becomes a point of transition, structuring the experience as a journey through distinct yet connected environments. The layout supports both individual installations and a coherent progression through the building. Separate rooms will create a sense of adventure, moving from sculptural installations and wall-based works to a dedicated screening room for video- based media, where the viewer may encounter a world-in-itself.
